OSSA, Obras Subterráneas, was set up in 1952.
It was a difficult start in the demanding world of mining, at a time when manual labour received little help from machines.
But the entrepreneurial courage and tenacity of the founders provided OSSA with the culture, infrastructure, human resources and optimal mechanical methods so that the company would grow over more than 50 years to become the current leader in the underground works sector in the Iberian peninsula.
||Founded in Asturias (northern Spain), originally dedicated to mining (galleries and shafts)
- Imprtant mining areas: Almadén, Iberian Pyrite Belt in Huelva, Linares and Suria
||OSSA began hydraulic work
- Projects: Hydroelectric Plants in Miranda, Conso, Toga; Nuclear Power Plant in Cofrentes, etc.
||As a result of the downturn in Spanish mining, OSSA diversified its activity into the construction of road and rail tunnels
||The company focussed its activity on roads and railways throughout Spain, working on major infrastructure development projects in Spain
- Road tunnels: Guadarrama, Cadí, Negrón, Piqueras etc.
- Railway tunnels: high-speed network AVE (e.g. Pajares, San Pedro, Ontígola etc.)
OSSA is currently involved in constructing the main railway network (AVE) and developing roads in Spain
||Historically OSSA had been a 100% family owned company with the Figar family as the sole shareholder from 2005
In July 2008 Mercapital took majority ownership in conjunction with the Management Team. The Figar family reinvested in a number of shares and remains a minority shareholder
||Key positions in the Management Team have been strengthened (CEO, COO, CFO, International Director), while maintaining the know-how of the previous team, as the company works towards reaching its new identified goals
